In a city of people not exactly known for having formal religious ties, some 7,400 cheered Tuesday morning as they welcomed the Dalai Lama, Anglican Archbishop Desmond Tutu and about a half dozen other religious leaders.
On the last day of the Dalai Lama’s visit to Seattle for a gathering on compassion, he joined Christian, Jewish, Muslim, Sikh and other Buddhist representatives — along with some young people — for a panel discussion on spiritual connection.

Moderator Joan Halifax Roshi, a Zen Buddhist master, began the morning by asking everyone to “come into collective silence and pray in whatever way is appropriate to us” for the best outcome for the situation in Tibet
Saudi the king announced plans for a new interfaith dialogue in which “believers of the three main religions — the Torah, Bible and Koran — will be of priority.”

In other words, Jews, Christians and Muslims

I’ve read about it and looked at charts, but does it work?
I am also interested in anything along the lines of yoga, reflexology, Zen, psychology, and philosophy. Do you know of any other practices that I have not listed that seem like they would maybe fit my interests? Stuff like Wiccan or scientology or yoga? (I already know about these things. What I am asking is, do you know of anything else along the lines of the things that I have listed? Spiritual practices, body and mind stuff?)
Please do NOT say Christianity. Been there, done that. No more of that.

.
I’m spiritual, non-denominational. I’m gifting myself with the adventure of attending an overnight New Years retreat in the Bay Area ~ ~ We will be gathering with others at a Zen retreat and sharing meditation through the evening, at mid-night and awakening early for early morning meditation. I do meditate, yet not, as yet, to the deeper level that they do as at this Zen meditation center. We’re leaving to drive to the Bay Area this afternoon and looking forward to it.

My question is this . . . I attended a half day meditation there some weeks back and noticed that some, including women, had their hair shaved off.

Why do they do this.? I’m respecting of persons of all faiths and sometimes wonder why a person of a certain faith does something so, just wondering.

Do you know why persons in the Buddha faith shave the hair on their head off? Appreciate insight.

Is it a benefit, or a hinderance taking time that could be better used for something more practical? Do you see them, and these practices as specific to a religion, (Buddhism) or merely a spiritual practice that can be understood from any religion? (Just as Prayer is used as a tool across many religions)

People don’t understand basic ego dynamics and think that ego is about overtly seeking attention from others, etc. Each of us has an ego and it seeks IDENTITY. This identity can be the ‘humble, spiritual, no-reward identity’ or the ‘help others with no expectations’ identity. It is anything that seeks to create a sense of self — and the subtlest form of this is the one that is the ‘humble truth-seeker who doesn’t want recognition or reward’. Zen understands this very well and it would help if ‘psychics’ did, too.
